Still on the road to Blantyre - July 18

We unwound ourselves from the back seats of the Land Rover and were thrilled with our accommodations for the next 5 nights are at ("Vision" in Chichewa). Masomphenya Lodge It's run by a couple from Zimbabwe and Ireland. It's beautiful and very spacious. Not at all what we were expecting. Susan and I are sharing a room, Joe and Ellen have their own rooms.

We went to the Deanery to meet the Dean and have dinner. Dean Mofolo is the Dean of the Blantyre Deanery which covers much of southern Malawi. As water is so precious here and often has to be hand carried from the well - if you are fortunate, if not the river, it's customary to have the host pour water from a pitcher over your hands to wash them. We enjoyed hearing about the Dean's responsibilities and a dinner of chicken (?) rice, and cabbage. We got a laugh from Ellen's coffee cup - it said "Uff da" - a gift from a visitor from Sweden
