Off to Mvuu Camp July 23, 2009

Homemade pancakes for breakfast with fresh fruit. I will really miss this place!

After saying a sad farewell to John and Elaine we visited with Bishop Bvumbwe and his wife Maria as described in an earlier post.

Then we are on our way to Mvuu Camp in the Liwonde National Park . We stopped at the village of Liwonde and bought some curvings (not a misspelling - that's what they are called) to take home as gifts and souvenirs. I bought some coasters, a key holder and some letter openers. I'm not good a negotiating prices. They are just so poor, I almost feel like asking them to take more for their wares. :-)

Just when we think that the roads we have traveled can't possibly get more primitive, we travel on a new one to take the title of "most difficult road". It took almost an hour to go 18kms - people walking were passing us :-). Poor Susan suffers with motion sickness more than I and had a miserable time.

Mvuu Camp from the Shire River - love the Baobab trees!

We finally arrived in the late afternoon at the dock to take the boat across the Shire River to the camp. Ellen and Joe have their own "rooms" and Susan and I are sharing. They are very comfortable with their own bathroom, a porch with a view of the lake, solar and generator electricity and comfortable beds. There is a big covered outdoor dining room and a pool.
